Second Story Addition

The Locascio 2nd Story Addition turned a single-story home into two-story multigenerational home by dormering the rear and keeping the front curb appeal that it had. The Locascio family was expanding and moving in together to create a cohesive multigenerational home. The house originally was inhabited by Ms. Locascio, she needed to expand her home to create her own floor unit on the second floor so that her daughter could move into the first floor with her husband and daughter on the way. This project had a few restrictions since the zone only allowed for single family homes so creating a true two family home was not feasible, but we did our best to create a space that felt like its own apartment. We turned an unfinished attic into a second story space with great natural light. This floor included a living space, a bedroom, bathroom, laundry area/wet bar and closet space for Ms. Locascio. It also included an entry/exit door to a second story deck with a spiral staircase down to the lower deck. This allowed her to enter her own space from the rear if needed but also easily accessed from the front entrance vestibule and up the stairs without intruding into the first floor private spaces. Do note that she still uses the kitchen on the first floor which is next to her indoor stairs.
