What should you know before doing Exterior Home Improvements?

Why are Buildings designed differently around the world?
August 1, 2023Happy July everyone! Today, July 1st, will forever hold a special place in my heart. Two years ago, on this day I took the leap and launched Rooted Architecture Studio and since then it has been quite the ride. I have learned so much these past two years as an Architect, business owner, and woman. As well as making amazing connections with clients and fellow professionals. I feel so grateful, blessed, and proud of what Rooted Architecture Studio has grown to become thus far. Plus, I am so excited to see and experience what is to come for the company and for me as an individual. Reaching this two-year milestone is wonderful and as part of this blog I want to give you more insight into how Rooted came to be and how we got here today.
Taking the leap in becoming an Architect Entrepreneur was not a goal I had brewing in my mind for a long time. It came from reevaluating my life during the start of the Pandemic. It was the Fall of 2020 when it became an idea, I did research and began to put together ideas of what I wanted my company to be. When 2021 began I started acting on this idea, I wrote a rough business plan, and began developing the name and logo. I filed for the PLLC on my birthday in February and two months later I received the PLLC approval. I do not count that as the birth of the company as I was still developing its basic infrastructure.
From the end of April to end of June, I created my website, graphics, social media accounts, banking accounts, tax related items and on July 1st I went live and began promoting it. When I launched it was my side hustle and worked on one project at a time from home. Then in 2022, I poured more into the company by becoming a part-time consultant at my previous employer. As I dwindled down the projects I managed in my previous employment, I began building my network and taking on more projects. Then on February 1st, 2023, I completed my last day with my previous employment, and since have I been working full-time from home, dedicated to Rooted projects, and growing at a pace I did not imagine it would, something I am highly grateful for. Passion and dedication have brought the company and me where we are today, and it is what will drive us into what is to come. It’s a constant evolution of learning and adjusting to create an aligned space for myself, and anyone who works for or with Rooted.
I say “I” and “the company” because we are two separate entities. Rooted Architecture Studio reflects who I am, but it is greater than just me. As I am more than just a business owner and/or an Architect. I knew from the start of the development of the company that I did not want my own personal name in the company’s name, instead I wanted to reflect a name that meant something to me and would grow into something bigger or meaningful to others. “Rooted” came about my own self development and reconnecting with my own Salvadoran culture. Everyone sets roots in their own way, whether it is in their home country or differently, or it can be setting solid roots by buying a home, remolding one, or even building a new one. It can also be setting roots for a business by creating a new office space or moving to a different location. Roots are connections, networks, integration growth and so much more. Furthermore, I have a love for nature, especially trees, and enjoy incorporating nature into my designs in one way or another when possible.
Now two years into the business, I have short- and long-term goals for the company that I hope to accomplish. One of them is to keep providing educational content and serving as more than just a designer. Another is to expand as a company. Currently, I have a full-time drafter and one part-time drafter, both remote, which has been a great learning experience. My goal is to be able to get a small office space in the next year or two, then hire a full-time in-person employee, while still working with my remote drafters. From there, see how things are and grow even more as needed. Nothing is ever set in stone and goals can always shift as well, so look forward to bringing you on the journey of further developing Rooted Architecture Studio, and I as the founder and Principal Architect.
